We have been called many times by a by a client whose previous mitigation contractor finished the job, but left the client with a unclean, smelly, wet and sometimes moldy structure.
Here is one of those cases:


AtoZ Building Services received a call from Kim Nguyen.  She asked if our crew could install drywall for her house after demolition due to a flood….Arriving to take measurements, we were overwhelmed with mal odors including Methane. ( Sewer gas)  While talking to Kim, the supervisor from the restoration company (sent by her Insurance carrier) came to retrieve their equipment and told the client that “her place was dry, and their mitigation work was done”

 

After the contractor left, Kim asked us to inspect the mitigation work.  Tested were walls in 2 bedroom and 2 bathrooms upstairs, and 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, living room, and laundry room downstairs.  All walls registered wet.  The guest bedroom’s ceiling and hall way had large holes that were removed by the previous workers to drain water.  These ceilings were visibly wet, and tested wet: Samples of the acoustic materials was collected and tested positive as Asbestos!

 

The garage was the on site temporary storage, where the previous contractor had moved and staged the contents.  We found important books, and pictures, now glued together because they were not taken care of by the mitigation company. These cherished items went back 40+ years and some had to be trashed.   All these items were soaked, and they were piledin a big mount on the garage floor.  A briefcase was pulled from the floor, and water spilled out. Pictures and books inside were soaked.  Shoes and other personal items kept in bags were floating in  water.

 

We were hired to re-clean and complete the drying process!  We arranged to have the Asbestos ceiling and floor removed.  At the same time, our crew built a stage to keep contents off the garage floor, separated all items and neatly stacked books, pictures and other contents.  All wet furniture and electronics were moved into the garage.  The garage was contained using 6mil poly and turned into a drying chamber.  After the sanitizing process, drying equipment was deployed.

 

After the Asbestos was abated and cleared.  The master bedroom’s closet had moldy walls, some leather jackets and suits had visible mold spots.  All clothing items were piled on the bed and covered with a thin plastic.  Our crew sorted the dry from the damp clothes.  All damp and moldy clothes had to be triple cleaned.  The dry & clean clothes, along with the dry furniture was packed and moved to a storage unit nearby.   This additional process of Structural drying also included Content restoration. Mold Abatement, Mal-odor abatement with ozone treatments. We left the Nyguen’s with a certified dry, mold free, clean, and malodor free environment, and a family that was very thankful for our help.
